Read below to find out more about your newest ass-kicker.

Elena: How did you first come to WTF? Describe your evolution here.

Sonia: I tried boxing a bit at another gym but realized WTF was close to my job and gave it a shot. I immediately liked the energy of the classes and that the members and instructors weren’t too intense. I started religiously taking Victor and Clint’s classes, started training one-on-one with Clint and then going to intermediate classes…eventually I got in the ring to spar and I’ve been in love ever since. After over a year of coming to classes 5-6 times a week, I joined the team more officially and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

E: What are your three favorite things about being a WTF-er?

S: -Teaching people a new skill and watching something click in a session is priceless.

-Being involved in the expansion and seeing the staff’s incredible drive for the growth.

-Learning more about my coworkers. Everyone has such a great background and story to share. You can learn a lot.

E: What has been the biggest struggle in your transition to a trainer? What’s been the most rewarding?

S: My biggest struggle is definitely moving from training with clients, to training the clients. I definitely want them to feel like they are in good hands so I’m training double time and trying to learn as much as possible to make their time here with me worth it.

The most rewarding aspect is getting to work with so many people that are brand new to boxing. It takes a lot of guts to learn something new and boxing is especially intimidating, I love getting to teach people from scratch and see their faces when they really get it.

E: What are the top 5 songs on your class playlist?

S: – Mi Gente – J Balvin, Willy William

– My Chick Bad – Ludacris, Nicki Minaj

– Silly Ho – TLC

– WTF (Where They From)- Missy Elliott, Pharrell Williams

– How Far I’ll Go (from Moana)….Not really but that one is on my personal workout list 😉

E: Describe your class in 5 words.

S: Fun, Tough, Energizing, WORTH IT!

E:  When you are not at WTF, what are your favorite ways to spend time?

Lucy The Bulldog

S: I love to cook, explore the city and all the boroughs (always down for an adventure) and spend time with my English Bulldog, Lucy!

E: What is your favorite food? What is one item you can’t live without?

S: Peanut Butter (on a cinnamon raisin bagel if possible) . And, besides my dog? My jump rope – you can travel and workout anywhere with that thing and it never gets easier!

E: What are your goals for your first year as a trainer?

S: Learn as much as possible, make great connections with the members, have a wait-list for my sessions, stay well rounded as an athlete and keep challenging myself as a boxer and a trainer!
